Participants enjoy intriguing discussions led by dynamic local Rabbis, presentations by knowledgeable communal leaders, opportunities to meet and build relationships with successful and prominent professionals, as well as exciting field trips exploring the highlights of the Jewish community.

Founded in 1998 at the University of Michigan, the Maimonides Leaders Fellowship (MLF) has since expanded to over 35 campuses throughout the US and Canada, and has set the standard for educating and empowering Jewish youth on college campuses across North America. This selective program brings together a qualified group of intelligent and motivated students – from across the denominational spectrum – to participate in an intensive eight-week fellowship addressing various aspects of Jewish philosophy and leadership.

The Maimonides Leaders Fellowship is a unique opportunity designed to allow you to explore many fundamental Jewish ideas in a dynamic, interactive, open environment, and to discuss and debate these ideas with prominent Jewish leaders and share your thoughts amongst like-minded students. The fellowship enables participants to investigate many of the core spiritual and philosophical ideas that make the Jewish people unique, with an eye on what this teaches us about Jewish leadership and responsibility, and simultaneously offers the chance to interact with exceptional people in the Jewish world, hear their stories, and develop a first-hand understanding of what it takes to be a Jewish leader.

Maimonides students convene weekly on Wednesday nights for a 2½ hour seminar. The first hour of each weekly session focuses on topics such as Spirituality and Mysticism, Happiness, Relationships, Why Jews Do the Things We Do, Gender in Judaism, and much more. The second hour features guest speakers who are leaders in the Jewish world, including experts in the fields of government, finance, ethics, medicine, literature, philosophy and science. As a group, these speakers impart a powerful leadership vision and present a vibrant model for students to consider.

6:00-7:00 pm   Jewish philosophy, contemporary issues & wisdom for living

7:00-7:30 pm   Dinner and discussion groups

7:30-8:30 pm   Guest speaker

In addition to the academic element, the fellowship includes an experiential  component. Students attend two weekend “Shabbaton” programs (Friday afternoon to Saturday night) – one in a local Jewish community, and one in either Portland or Victoria – to afford informal opportunities for social bonding and experience-based growth. These weekend trips emphasize theJewish spiritual legacy and are a welcomed respite from campus, with great company and home cooked meals. Fellows also participate in a fascinating Sunday field trip, and a formal graduation dinner, where students share their impressions of the program and receive their graduation certificates and stipends. The Fellowship stipend ($350) is prorated based on attendance, and is disbursed upon successful completion of the program.

Maimonides will inspire and challenge you; it will open your mind and excite you about your Jewish heritage. It is a shared experience with unparalleled personal potential, a chance to learn more about yourself and leave the Fellowship enriched, with a more meaningful perspective on life.
